Defiant SI ensures MSP for paddy farmers
Warns of criminal cases if rice millers buy at lower rates
HYDERABAD: The footage of a sub-inspector (SI), who stood in support of farmers in purchasing paddy crops based on minimum support price (MSP), went viral on social media. The incident occurred at Tungapadu under Miryalaguda police limits.
Days after a district collector cautioned farmers against paddy cultivation, the sub-inspector, B Sudheer Kumar warned millers of criminal cases if they refused to purchase paddy crops.
"The millers have consented to purchase paddy produce based on MSP of Rs 1,960 and farmers expressed their happiness," Sudheer Kumar said. Miryalaguda-based rice millers formed a syndicate and refused to purchase paddy crops from farmers. Along with middlemen, they fixed their own price, which was significantly lower than MSP and left no scope for bargaining.
Hundreds of furious farmers staged rasta-roko at Tungapadu road.
"As movement of vehicles had come to a standstill, we swung into action to clear traffic snarls. On hearing the plight of the farmers, we went to the millers and resolved the issue," Sudheer Kumar said.
