Chennai: Youth dies as stray rope strangles him
The deceased was identified as D. Gowri Sankar, 34, son of a local paper vendor. He was a resident of Padur.
Chennai: A newspaper delivering youth on his bike died when he got himself entangled in a rope tied between barricades at a private hospital in Kelambakkam on Friday morning.
The deceased was identified as D. Gowri Sankar, 34, son of a local paper vendor. He was a resident of Padur. Police said his father Durai Babu, a former India Post employee had taken up newspaper distribution after his retirement. His son Gowri Sankar on Friday went to Kelambakkam and distributed newspapers in offices and homes there.
He then went into the premises of the hospital delivered the newspaper near the ICU ward and was returning when he caught entangled in a rope put across the path. He got strangled and he died on the spot.
His family members and neighbours from Padur rushed to the hospital and raised slogans against the hospital authorities. They said that while viewing CCTV footage of the hospital it was found that when Gowrishankar entered the hospital premises there was no rope and the rope came up across the path when he was returning.
They alleged that Gowrishankar had died due to the negligence of hospital authorities and urged the police to take action against them. Kelambakkam police who rushed to the spot moved the body to the Chengelpet government hospital for post-mortem.
Tense moments were witnessed at the hospital as more than 50 people gathered there to stage a protest against the hospital, they alleged that Gowrishankar had died due to no fault of his and held the hospital responsible for the untimely death of a young man. Kelambakkam police have registered a case against the hospital under the section of death due to negligence.
