Pondicherry PSK to ease Chennai load
Easing the process of the passport application is a slew of rules like non-mandate on producing a birth certificate as the proof of date of birth.
Chennai: To ease the process for Puducherry and Karaikal residents, Mini-Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) Puducherry will from January 2 next year, function as a PSK, thus making it convenient for people to get the passport processed from there.
Also, easing the process of the passport application is a slew of rules like non-mandate on producing a birth certificate as the proof of date of birth.
“Transfer certificate, Pan card, Aadhaar card, a copy of government service record for individuals in public jobs, driving license, Epic, policy bond issued by LIC can all be used to furnish the proof of DOB,” said regional passport officer.P.K. Ashok Babu, speaking to the media on Friday.
“Also, orphaned children who do not have a proof of DOB may submit a declaration given by the head of the orphanage,” he added. With the reduction in the number of annexes, and making only the name of one parent or a legal guardian, the process will further help people get their passports processed without any hassles.
Also, applicants who couldn’t attend their appointments during the cyclone Vardah may now walk in the passport office anytime within the next ten days.
“This year from January 1, 2016, the Regional Passport Office, Chennai has processed 426475 applications and issued 415319 passports,” Babu said.
He said that the mulling over a project to make police verification easier through tablets is in the final stage with funds being awaited. “Police can carry out the verification process and submit the details through tablets that would be made available at each police station. It is a nascent idea and will be undertaken when we have the wherewithal for the same.”
