Hyderabad: Chintapalli police of Nalgonda district, once an award-winning team, are now busy breaking down a part of the station building. The reason: They are spooked by their sub-inspectors getting involved in crime and getting suspended, and want to ‘fix’ the Vastu of the building.

In tune with the changes, they demolished a shed attached to the police station and levelled the premises of the police station floor.

The Chintapalli police station was in the spotlight after being picked by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs in its ‘Smart List’, for good performance by deploying technology. But what followed the award was a series of allegations and subsequent suspensions of multiple sub-inspectors (SIs) for alleged wrongdoings.

In all, seven staff members, including SIs, constables, and writers, have been suspended, with the most recent suspension — of SI Satish Reddy for negligence in handling a land dispute issue, in which a person died — coming a few days ago.

Sources said that the staff at the Chintapalli police station were in fear over the continuous transfers and suspensions due to alleged irregularities. To rid themselves of the ‘jinx’, they decided to opt for the changes.

The police hired a JCB machine and initiated the levelling, with sources saying they wanted to bid adieu to the bad luck along with 2023 and discharge their duty without disturbance in the New Year.
