Ponnam releases water from LMD to SRSP farmers
Karimnagar: Backward classes welfare minister Ponnam Prabhakar assured that the state government will supply water for agriculture continuously. But it will be profitable if farmers cultivate dry season crops in coming days, he stated.
The minister, accompanied by Manakondur MLA Dr. K. Satyanarayana and district collector Pamela Satpathi, released water on Sunday from Lower Manair Dam (LMD) reservoir to farmers of the SRSP ayucut for the 2023-24 Rabi season on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, Prabhakar said people have voted in the Congress government to bring change in governance. Keeping up with this spirit, state government has released water from LMD as a New Year gift to farmers.
He pointed out that the water storage capacity of LMD is 24 TMC. At present, the water storage in the reservoir is 19.646 TMC. The government has thus decided to release water continuously for agriculture sector.
The minister, however, asked people to keep in mind the limited availability of water. It would thus be better if they prefer cultivating commercial and dry-season crops, so that they can derive maximum benefits, he remarked.
He warned that stringent actions will be taken against persons who illegally sell fake seeds and fertilisers.
Engineer-in-chief (Irrigation) Shankar, superintending engineer Shiva Kumar, executive engineer Nagabhushanam and revenue divisional officer Maheshwar were among those present.
