VIJAYAWADA: AP police on Saturday arrested Dr. Vuyyuru Lokesh Babu, reported to be a Telugu Desam sympathiser, for sending messages from Gannavaram Airport about Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy's take off on a trip to Europe on Friday night.

According to Gannavaram police, Dr. Lokesh hails from Washington and possesses an American citizenship. He had been at the Gannavaram Airport while the Chief Minister took off with his family for their foreign tour.
Police found that Dr. Lokesh had been sending messages to Telugu Desam cadre about the CM’s international trip. He went on to give a protest call. However, no one turned up.
While being questioned by police, Dr. Lokesh complained of having a heart attack. The police admitted him to a private hospital for treatment.

Gannavaram police later said they took Dr. Lokesh into preventive custody after receiving information about possible protest programmes while Jagan Mohan Reddy had been departing. Police said they later set him free.

Speaking to media later, Dr. Lokesh claimed that he had been kidnapped and attacked by police because he questioned Jagan’s policies. He protested that despite being an American citizen, he had been tortured by police and officials.

Dr. Lokesh declared that he will fight against his detention till action is taken against officials who are responsible for behaving inhumanly with him.
