HOSAPETE: A small portion of the 'Salu Mantapa' at the 'Ratha Beedi' of the renowned Virupaksha Temple in Hampi has collapsed following heavy rainfall. Sources said that the downpour on Tuesday caused damage to part of the structure.
The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has been conducting restoration work on the Salu Mantapa in phases. While some sections have already been restored, the portion that collapsed was still awaiting repair.
Vijayanagara district Deputy Commissioner MS Divakar, who visited the site, assured that the restoration of the Salu Mantapa will be completed within nine months.
The Virupaksha Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is located in Hampi, a temple town in South India recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Situated in the Vijayanagara district of Karnataka, the temple is a testament to Hampi’s historical and architectural significance. It stands as a prominent surviving structure amidst Hampi's ruins and continues to attract pilgrims and tourists alike.
