BJP leading in Kedarnath

Dehradun: BJP's Asha Nautiyal was on Saturday leading in Kedarnath over Congress' Manoj Rawat. Snatching an early lead, she was leading by 1,005 votes at the end of the second round of counting. Independent candidate Tribhuvan Singh is trailing at the third spot. The Kedarnath seat fell vacant after the death of BJP MLA Shaila Rani Rawat in July this year necessitating a bypoll which was held on November 20. Counting began amid tight security in Kedarnath at 8 am. - PTI

Punjab bypolls: AAP candidate Dhaliwal leading from Barnala seat

Chandigarh: AAP candidate Harinder Singh Dhaliwal was leading in the bypoll to Barnala assembly segment against his nearest rival the Congress' Kuldeep Singh Dhillon, the initial trend showed.

Dhaliwal was leading by 634 votes while BJP's Kewal Dhillon was in the third spot.

The counting of votes for the bypolls to Punjab's four assembly segments began at 8 am on Saturday.

Bypolls to Gidderbaha, Dera Baba Nanak, Chabbewal (SC) and Barnala assembly segments took place on November 20. The bypolls were necessitated after the incumbent legislators were elected to the Lok Sabha earlier this year. - PTI

Meghalaya CM's wife Mehtab leading in Gambegre bypoll

Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma's wife Mehtab Chandee Sangma has secured early leads in the bypoll to Gambegre constituency in West Garo Hills district, officials said on Saturday. Mehtab, the National People's Party (NPP) candidate, is leading by around 1,000 votes over her nearest rival TMC's Sadhiarani M Sangma, securing close to 3,400 votes in the first round of counting, they said. BJP's Bernard Marak is trailing, securing 151 votes, while Independents Jerry and Sengkrabirth have managed 264 and 37 votes, respectively. The bypoll was necessitated following the resignation of Congress MLA Saleng A Sangma, days after he won the Tura Parliamentary seat earlier this year. - PTI
