Bhopal: Doctors and medical students across Madhya Pradesh on Friday launched indefinite strike demanding justice for the trainee female doctor who was raped and killed at her workplace in Kolkata’s RG Kar government hospital on August nine.

The doctors and medical students staged demonstrations at their respective workplaces in different government medical colleges and hospitals and vowed to continue their stir till the accused in the macabre incident of August nine in Kolkata were tried in the court of law.

“OPD and elective OT services are suspended. But, we have made emergency services and ICUs operational to ensure that no patient suffers loss of life”, Dr Nidhi Gupta said.

She said that there should be a Central Act for the protection of the doctors. The culprits in the gruesome incident and the goons that attacked the protesting doctors must be brought to book without delay.

Spokesperson of the junior doctors association Deepa Gupta said that it is shocking that the goons attacked the doctors who were protesting silently in Kolkata and also tried to destroy the evidence.

She wondered why efforts were being made to shield the culprits.

The incident also raises the issue of women’s safety, she said.

Meanwhile, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Friday called for a nationwide withdrawal doctors’ services for 24 hours in protest against the rape and murder of the trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar government hospital and violence at the protest site.
