NOTA Registers Record Polling in MP LS Polls
Bhopal: NOTA or none of the above has registered record polling by securing over 5.33 lakh votes in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls in Madhya Pradesh, the election commission data has revealed.
NOTA has polled a whopping 5,33,705 votes in the 29 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state, chief electoral officer (CEO) of Madhya Pradesh Anupam Rajan said on Wednesday.
The results of the 2024 LS polls were declared on Tuesday.
NOTA’s vote share in the 2024 LS polls in Madhya Pradesh was 1.4 percent of the total votes polled as against the 0.92 percent recorded in the 2019 general elections, Mr Rajan said.
Interestingly, NOTA also found its footprint in the postal ballots.
According to Mr. Rajan, 1038 voters who exercised their franchise through postal ballots voted in favor of NOTA.
NOTA got 2,18,674 votes, a record polling by NOTA in LS polls in the country so far, in the Indore LS constituency in Madhya Pradesh.
BJP candidate and sitting MP in the constituency Shankar Lalwani has retained the seat in the polls by a record margin of 10,08,077 votes.
NOTA has emerged as the runner in the seat.
Ratlam (ST) LS seat in Madhya Pradesh where BJP candidate Anita Nagar Singh Chouhan has defeated Congress veteran and former Union minister Kantilal Bhuria has recorded second highest polling for NOTA in the state at 31,735 votes.
NOTA recorded the lowest polling in the state in the Satna LS constituency by securing 2553 votes.
NOTA has been provided as an option to voters in the country in the elections since 2013. By expressing a preference for the 'none of the above', a voter can choose not to vote for any candidates, contesting the elections.
