Mumbai: The suspension of Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Vidhan Parishad Ambadas Danve is likely to be revoked after his party Shiv Sena (UBT) hinted that he was likely to apologise for his abusive words.

Anil Parab, the legislative party leader of Shiv Sena (UBT), said that Danve has shown his willingness to tender an apology. He requested Deputy chairperson of the house Neelam Gorhe to permit Danve to make a statement in the House.

“Danve has shown his willingness to tender an apology for his alleged misbehaviour and the use of inappropriate language on the floor. Our party leader, Uddhav Thackeray, has also apologised for Danve’s actions. Nevertheless, a unilateral decision was made in the house, resulting in Danve’s suspension,” Parab said.

“To show solidarity to our leader of opposition, the party legislators have decided not to take part in the proceedings of the House. We will remain quiet in the House to express our objection to the one-sided proceedings,” he added.

Danve has also written a letter to Gorhe expressing his regret over the incident. “As a member of the House, I have always tried my best to follow the sanctity, rules, customs and traditions of the House. But you suspended me on 1st July, 2024, after the incident which happened due to my negligence. Our party leader has publicly apologized in this regard and I am also of the opinion to maintain the sanctity of the House. So I have no qualms about apologizing to the House,” he said.

“As the work of the House is on, I want to raise questions of the farmers, labourers, youth and women of Maharashtra in the House so that the government will do justice to their issues. As my suspension should not result in stopping me from solving the problems of farmers, labourers, youth and women, I request that my suspension be reconsidered,” he wrote.

Danve was suspended for five days for allegedly misbehaving and using abusive language against BJP MLC Prasad Lad during a discussion in the council on Monday evening. Following this, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray had expressed apology for his partyman’s action.
