Grenade found with warning note at Imphal college gate.

Guwahati: In what has created a sensation, some civilians on Monday noticed a grenade lying in front of GP Women’s College and alerted the security forces which defused the grenade.

Security sources said that a bomb disposal squad was rushed to the spot which defused and disposed of the grenade at the Lamphel Game Village area in Imphal West by around 7.20 am. The grenade was found just around 100 metres from the official residence of the Governor of Manipur.

Police said that the grenade was found along with a note that demanded that authorities honour the “rights of proletarian students’ free education movement”.

Police have registered a case and are investigating the matter. The motive behind the threat and those responsible for it are yet to be ascertained.

Significantly, the incident comes a day after a similar bomb threat at the residence of a doctor – the proprietor of a private hospital – in Thoubal district.

The residents of Khangabok in Thoubal district on Sunday registered a protest by organising a sit-in strike and denounced the bomb threat. They also demanded that security forces should identify those involved in giving a bomb threat.
