Karimnagar: Pime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday appealed to youngsters in Karimnagar to draw inspiration from local farmer Mallikarjuna Reddy — a progressive farmer who quit his MNC job to settle down in his village — to take up farming as a career.

Interacting virtually with people of Choppadandi town in Karimnagar district, he also sought to create awareness among college students about various welfare schemes introduced by the Central government. He interacted with people of Telangana, Rajasthan, Meghalaya and Maharashtra on the day as part of the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra.

Speaking with Mallikarjuna Reddy, a native of Pedda Kummaripelly village, Modi appreciated him and enquired about the integrated farming efforts undertaken and the benefits he derived from Kisan Credit cards.

“There is a need for people like Mallikarjuna Reddy to create awareness among the youth about self-development schemes by participating in seminars, which will be conducted in universities,” Modi said.

The Prime Minister also appreciated Mallikarjuna Reddy’s wife and his family members for supporting him. He hailed Reddy’s wife for her “Nari Shakthi”.

“The Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra aims to create awareness among people about the Central government’s welfare schemes and has reached its goal. It will continue in 2024,” Modi said.

Earlier in the day, MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar cleaned a ‘Shivalayam (Shiva temple)’ situated in Padmanagar Colony of Karimnagar city as part of the call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president J.P. Nadda. Accompanied by the director of the ministry of home affairs, Yogesh Mohan Dixit, and district collector Pamela Satpathy, Sanjay inaugurated the Viksit Bharat programme.

Speaking on the occasion, he alleged that leaders of opposition parties were making comments about the distribution of Lord Sri Rama ‘Akshintalu’.

“Does the Akshintalu contain varieties of ration rice or basmati or separate Jai Sri Ram? Why are the leaders of Opposition parties trying to politicise Lord Sri Rama Akshintalu?” he said.
