Bhopal: Around 28,000 beneficiaries under ‘Ladli Behna Yojana’ that had proved a game changer for the ruling BJP in the November 2023 assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh has been removed from the scheme after being found ineligible for it.

This was revealed by state women and child development minister Nirmala Bhuria in the state assembly here.

The minister said that a total of 27,657 women beneficiaries under the scheme were removed since they were found ineligible after scrutiny.

There were around 1.5 crore beneficiaries under the scheme in Madhya Pradesh.

The scheme, launched during the previous Shivraj Singh Chouhan government ahead of the November 2023 assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh, had proved a game changer for the ruling BJP, leading the party to win a landslide victory in the elections by securing 163 out of 230 seats in the house.

A monthly incentive of Rs 1,000 was initially given to a beneficiary under the scheme.

The monthly incentive was later increased to Rs 1,200.

The former chief minister Mr Chouhan who is currently Union agriculture and rural development minister had then promised to hike the monthly incentive under the scheme to Rs 3,000 in a phased manner.

Mr Chouhan has however lost the post of chief minister to Mr Mohan Yadav after BJP won the 2023 assembly polls in the state.

A budgetary allocation of Rs 18,000 crore has reportedly been made in the annual budget 2024-25, to be presented in the state assembly on Wednesday, to support the scheme.
