Visakhapatnam: Nandyal retained its scorching reign as India's hottest place for the third straight day, recording a temperature of 46°C on Saturday.
Meanwhile, five other cities in the country battled intense heatwave conditions. Parts of Rayalaseema districts and coastal Andhra Pradesh in Andhra Pradesh sweltered under the sun's wrath, with maximum temperatures hovering between a staggering 42°C and 46°C.
The heatwave's grip extended to Kurnool (45.9°C), YSR Kadapa (45.4°C), Jangamaheswarapuram (44.8°C), Anantapur (44.7°C), and Tirupati (44.1°C). The India Meteorological Department (IMD) office in Amaravati has predicted the heatwave to persist until May 5, followed by a respite.
Andhra Pradesh has already grappled with two heatwaves in April. On Saturday, IMD scientist S. Karuna Sagar pinpointed Anantapur, Kurnool, Nandyal, Kadapa, and Arogyavaram as the regions experiencing heatwave conditions.
The rest of the state battled hot and humid weather. Fortunately, a reprieve is on the horizon. According to Sagar, the state can expect relief from heatwaves from May 6 onwards. Furthermore, scattered heavy rain is predicted over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema on May 7.
