Hyderabad: Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has issued a clarification regarding misleading information circulating on social media about restrictions on booking e-tickets based on different surnames.
IRCTC said the claims suggesting that an IRCTC account holder cannot book tickets from his account for others who have different surnames are entirely false and misleading. IRCTC emphasized that tickets are being booked as per the Railway Board Guidelines, and the required information is available in the public domain.
According to Indian Railways, users can book tickets on their personal User ID for friends, family, and relatives without any surname restrictions.
A user can book up to 12 tickets per month. For Aadhaar-authenticated users, this limit increases to 24 tickets per month if at least one passenger on the ticket is also Aadhaar authenticated.
Tickets booked on personal User IDs are strictly for personal use and not for commercial resale. Violating this rule is an offense under Section 143 of the Railways Act 1989.
