Kolkata: An outgoing Chinese diplomat in India has called for “more dialogues” between the two neighbouring countries to end their “misunderstandings.” Zha Liyou, the Chinese Consul General in Kolkata, made the assertions during a media interaction on Friday.

He said, “I have seen our leaders working hard to see how India as a country is being run and how China as a major country is being run by their respective leaders. These are the modern day experiences of the countries. This could be shared.”

Mr Liyou elaborated, “I have also been working on and advocating this all the time. In September, 2019, I even organized a symposium: China India Developmental Dynamics Forum. It has been the only one. I think we need more such dialogues so that misunderstandings can be written off.”

He however underlined that the India-China bilateral relations has been on the progress. The Chinese envoy observed, “I am sure we have a lot of space to work together. Though I don't have the overall information, I feel that it is gradually improving.”

Mr Liyou informed that China is going to celebrate this year the 100th anniversary of versatile poet and Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore's first visit there.

“2024 will see the 100th anniversary of Tagore's first visit to China. He travelled to China in April of 1924. My office and the local organizations will hold several commemorative events. Tagore had made his feet at Peking University, the best in China, in Beijing. So this university is going to invite Indian scholars to a global conference on Tagore in May. There may be one or two other educational institutions to do the same,” he said.

The Indian participants will include some former vice chancellors of varsities here and researchers who have pursued studies on Tagore.
