Hubballi: Playing down the state government's move to spend crores of rupees on projects in the JD(S) strongholds of Hassan and Mandya with an eye on the forthcoming general election, party leader N.H. Konareddy claimed that there is no discrimination to  North Karnataka region in terms of development because of this.

He said that the government has only cleared the long-pending projects of these two districts. Stating that a lot of funds has been released from the public works department for the region as well for the development of roads, he said that implementation of  projects has been delayed due to the sluggish attitude of bureaucrats. "There is a feeling in  that more funds are being released to JD(S) strongholds. But, it is wrong as the government has only cleared old projects in these districts. The periparial ring road was pending in Bengaluru and the government has only cleared the project. There is no question of injustice to North Karnataka as several projects including irrigation projects worth crores of rupees are underway in the region", Konareddy added.

He also said that North Karnataka farmers are the highest beneficiaries of the loan waiver scheme and funds have been released to 6.5 lakh farmers under the scheme. It is quite natural that the party in power gives priority to the region where it has a good base, he added.
