Congress leader said the new PCC chief should work in tandem with Chief Minister Kamal Nath.
Bhopal: Factionalism in the MP unit of Congress has revived with the party initiating a move to appoint a PCC chief in the wake of its debacle in the Lok Sabha elections.
Days after a couple of senior ministers in the Kamal Nath government demanded handing over the reins of MP Congress to AICC leader Jyotiraditya Scindia, supporters of former chief minister Digvijay Singh sought the post for him.
“The new PCC chief should work in tandem with Chief Minister Kamal Nath. The party can ill afford a confrontation between the PCC chief and CM,” a Congress leader argued.
“It is the prerogative of party high command to take a decision on the new state party president after consulting with Mr Nath and AICC general secretary in-charge of MP Deepak Babaria. We feel a senior, strong and experienced leader should lead the organisation,” a PCC spokesman said.
“I would suggest Mr Singh should lead the party, another spokes-man, Mr Mayank Agrawal, said.
