Vijayawada: Telugu Desam president Nara Chandrababu Naidu has castigated Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for his “failure” to develop Amaravati as the capital city and instead adopting a policy of AP having three capitals.

Addressing the TD leaders and activists at party headquarters on Friday, he said if Amaravati had been developed as a capital city, it would have helped generate employment for a lot of youths. “We had acquired the land under the land pooling system from farmers for developing Amaravati and started construction of buildings. When the YSRC assumed power, Jagan Mohan Reddy stopped developing the capital city.” Naidu alleged that the CM also destroyed Visakhapatnam.

Referring to the Polavaram irrigation project, the TD chief said that the state government changed the agency and also officials, resulting in a delay in its execution. Had it been completed, AP would have got adequate water for its cultivation purposes. Referring to the snag to the diaphragm wall and the guide bund of the spillway, he said this showed how things went wrong in the execution of the project.

Naidu slammed the state government for fixing meters to the agriculture pump sets, saying it caused hardships to farmers. He blamed the government for its failure to allow online payment for purchase of liquor at retail outlets. He called upon the people to work hard to help the Telugu Desam win the next polls to speed up the development of the state.

Earlier, YSRC’s Krishna district general secretary Subash Chandrabose along with his supporters joined the TD.
