BJP may split parties in Rajya Sabha
The party doesn’t intend to wait for getting majority in Upper House.
Hyderabad: The strategy adopted by the BJP in passing the contentious the Triple Talaq Bil and the RTI Act in the Rajya Sabha indicates that the ruling party is encouraging defections in regional parties to secure majority in the Upper House without waiting till the end of its elected term.
The BJP, which was keen on securing majority in the Rajya Sabha in its first term, is now making its moves to poach the Rajya Sabha members of the regional parties.
According to sources in the BJP, party chief Amit Shah is in touch with several Rajya Sabha members belonging to regional parties including the BSP, BJP, TD, NCP and even some Congress members.
The sources also hint at a big political development in Delhi after Parliament session.
Though the BJP has been successful in convincing regional parties to allow both the Bills to get through the Rajya Sabha by abstaining from voting, senior leaders from the Congress and the TRS feel that the BJP would not leave any stone unturned in securing the majority in the Rajya Sabha.
The sources in the BJP claim that the party has to wait for other two biennials elections of the Rajya Sabha to get majority in the House if it has follow the procedure. However, the party does not want to wait furthermore for getting a majority in the Rajya Sabha and wants to explore other options to secure majority in the Upper House.
Mr Shah has also said to have assured certain regional party members of admitting them into the BJP if they split the party as per the provisions of the Anti-Defection Law as was done in the case of Telugu Desam members.
