Mangaluru: Former Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah urged the Congress party workers here on Saturday to prepare for mid-term elections in the state, and claimed the party would return to power with an absolute majority.

Addressing a Congress party workers' convention  at the Mangaluru town hall, he appealed to the workers not to be disheartened by the recent developments and said the process of the  Congress' revival must begin from Dakshina Kannada.

The former Chief Minister, who earlier toured the flood-hit areas of Belthangady taluk and Mangaluru on Saturday, also  visited Pacchanady  where about 27 families are having a hard time due to a garbage slide in the rains.

Blaming lack of farsightedness by the Mangaluru City Corporation for the garbage slide, he promised to bring pressure  on the state government to come to the people's rescue.

Later speaking to reporters, the former chief minister hit out  against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not visiting the flood- hit areas of the state and for the delay in releasing funds for the relief operation.
