Report on Rs 32,000 crore loss sent to Delhi: BS Yediyurappa
Yediyurappa also revealed that the state government was considering waiving loans of farmers affected by the floods.
Hubballi: Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa said here on Saturday that the government would submit its report on the estimated loss of Rs 32,000 crore suffered by the state in the recent floods and landslides, to the Centre on Sunday. He also revealed that the state government was considering waiving loans of farmers affected by the floods.
Addressing district officials at a meeting following his visit to the flood-hit villages of Haveri, he promised that his government would ensure adequate funds for the relief operation despite the delay in release of the compensation package by the Centre. “We have already distributed Rs 10,000 each as emergency compensation to around 93 per cent of the flood victims,” he added.
The CM said he was giving top priority to construction of new houses for those who had lost their homes in the disaster and there was no dearth of funds for repairing and rebuilding of the school buildings that were submerged in the floods as an additional Rs 20 crore had been released for the relief operation.
On his tour earlier, Mr Yediyurappa assured the people that the government would shift around 26 flood-hit villages from the banks of the Varada river to a safe place.
