Hyderabad: Previous Congress governments had constructed mega projects like Nagarjunasagar, Sriramsagar Project and Jurala among others but they never indulged in any corruption, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said on Thursday. "That is for this reason, these projects constructed several decades ago remain intact even today and have been serving the needs of people."
Speaking at a meeting at Kollapur, Gandhi alleged that the pillars of Kaleshwaram lift irrigation scheme at Medigadda sank recently due to the corruption of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and his family members.
Gandhi was standing in for sister Priyanka Gandhi, who was scheduled to attending the Kollapur meeting but stayed way due to ill health.
Dubbing the Kaleshwaram project as the 'biggest fraud' of the Chandrashekar Rao government, Gandhi alleged that the Chief Minister and his family members had looted Rs 1 lakh crore wealth belonging to Telangana people in the last nine years which the Congress will recover if voted to power and ensure the wealth is distributed among Telangana people.
Addressing a public meeting at Kollapur on Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi tried to strike an emotional chord with the people of Telangana yet again.
“I am here to fulfil the commitment given by my sister to Telangana by skipping the most important Congress central election committee meeting in Delhi to finalise candidates,” Rahul Gandhi said, emphasising that the Congress shared a 'family bond' with the people and just not 'political bond'.
Rahul Gandhi will stay in the city overnight and attend campaign meetings in Kalwakurthy and Jadcherla, as he was previously scheduled to do, on Wednesday.
Terming the Assembly polls as a battle between "Prajala Telangana" and "Dorala Telangana", Rahul Gandhi said the Congress will ensure Prajala Telangana which takes care of common people if voted to power.
Rahul Gandhi said the BRS, BJP and the MIM are working together to prevent the victory of the Congress in Telangana and alleged that the MIM was fighting all the elections to split votes and benefit BJP.
"The BJP government at the Centre has booked ED, CBI, I-T cases against leaders of all opposition parties but there is not a single case against Telangana CM. The BJP, BRS and MIM are the one and the same. If you vote for the BJP, it will benefit the BRS," Rahul said.
Rahul Gandhi asked people to visit the projects constructed by the Congress and the BRS to know the difference.
The Congress leader said his party has implemented the promises made to people in letter and spirit in whichever state it came to power and assured that Congress will implement the six guarantees promised for Telangana if voted to power.
He said previous Congress governments distributed lands to the poor but the BRS government forcibly took over those lands from them in the name of projects.
Gandhi alleged that the BRS government grabbed lands using Dharani portal in the name of computerisation of land records due to which over 20 lakh farmers in Telangana were adversely affected.
He said the Congress would fulfil the aspirations for which Telangana was formed adding that then UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi had fulfilled the dream of Telangana, keeping in view the six-decade long aspirations of the people, which the BRS failed to fulfil in the last nine years.
