Tension in Kazipet After Protest by Relatives of Accident Victim

WARANGAL: A tense atmosphere prevailed when relatives of an accident victim tried to seize the police station demanding justice in Kazipet of Hanamkonda district on Friday.

The deceased Kavitha (39), a resident of Fathima Nagar colony, visited the polling station to cast her vote on Thursday. After voting, she was boarding a two-wheeler when a speeding car coming from the opposite direction hit and killed her on the spot.

It was later stated that the car was of an excise officials and it was being driven by his son when the mishap occurred. Initially, police maintained silence over these aspects.

The family Kavitha lodged a complaint with the Kazipet police station after identifying the car with number TS-03 FA9881. They pressed the police to arrest  the person who killed Kavitha.

In the morning on Friday, the family members went to the police station and sought details of the person who drove the vehicle. They did not get any response from the police.

The distraught family staged a dharna at the Fathima Nagar bridge in the afternoon and then, in desperation, tried to lay siege to the Kazipet police station.

When police officials tried to confront them, the relatives indulged in a heated argument with the cops. A tense atmosphere prevailed for a while in front of the police station.

They alleged that the police were trying to hide the details of the assailant driver. They demanded justice to the family.

Later, circle inspector Raju informed them that the car belonging to the SI of the Excise department working in Hyderabad was seized and the “car driver” was arrested. Following this, the family members and relatives of Kavitha left the police station and conducted her final rites.
