CHENNAI: DMK working president M. K. Stalin who turned 65 on Thursday resolved to send the AIADMK government packing home.
He started the day by cutting a cake at his residence surrounded by his family members including wife Durga Stalin. He then visited the memorial of DMK founder and former chief minister C. N. Annadurai at Marina and offered floral tributes. He was accompanied by party seniors including former state minister Durai Murugan, former union ministers T. R. Baalu and A. Raja, who conveyed their wishes to him.
He visited the memorial of Periyar EVR, where he was greeted by Dravidar Kazhagam president K Veeramani. In his message to Stalin, Veeramani said Stalin has to make many more achievements in public life. The former deputy chief minister also got blessings from his father and party president M Karunanidhi, sources said.
DMK workers from various parts of Tamil Nadu thronged Chennai to greet him at the party headquarters Anna Arivalayam here. Meanwhile, DMK youth wing is celebrating the birthday of Stalin on social media with the hash tag #HBDMKStalin.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth wished Stalin on his birthday.
“Rajinikanth telephoned Stalin and greeted him. He wished him a long and fruitful journey. Stalin thanked the top actor for his warm wishes,” sources said.
BJP president Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan said, “My heartfelt birthday greetings to brother Stalin.”
MDMK general secretary Vaiko, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president Su. Thirunavukkarasar, senior Congress leader Kumari Ananthan, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi president Thol Thirumavalavan, Dravidar Kazhagam president K Veeramani and others have conveyed their wishes to Stalin, who is the leader of Opposition in the state Assembly.
Stalin has thanked all those who have greeted him and said he was touched by their love on him.
“My sincere gratitude to leaders and cadres who have wished me on my birthday,” he said and took a vow to uphold the policies of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam founder C. N. Annadurai and his father and party president M Karunanidhi.
