Bengaluru: Prof. Rajeev Gowda, Congress MP from Karnataka in the Rajya Sabha, has been made head of the department of policy, planning and co-ordination in the All India Congress Committee (AICC). A statement issued by the AICC on Thursday said the Congress president has reconstituted different departments and assigned him the new responsibility.

Prof. Gowda was one of the few who did commendable work for the party during demonetisation. After demonetisation was announced, he did research which helped the party fight the BJP-led NDA government both within and outside Parliament. The new department will conduct research and come out with inputs to shape the policies of the party and will also help the Congress take up the fight against the government.

Prof. Gowda was professor, public policy, at IIMB and former deputy governor of RBI before becoming Rajya Sabha member. Interestingly, the AICC of late has been giving a lot of importance to Karnataka leaders.  Last month former Mandya MP Ramya was made the head of the social media cell. On Wednesday, Kolar MP K.H. Muniyappa was made a permanent invitee to the CWC, the highest decision making body of the party.
