Hyderabad: Former prime minister and Janata Dal (S) chief H.D. Deve Gowda on Sunday said he was confident that the coalition of regional parties will come to power at the Centre in the next general election as the national parties — the Congress and the BJP — have no chance of securing a majority on their own.

Mr Gowda is also learnt to have taken up the issue of the Congress troubling his JD (S) government in Karnataka, hardly a month after it assumed office, due to differences between the Congress leaders. He said the JD (S) has warned the Congress that it will not hesitate to part ways and seek the BJP's support if its partner fails to fall in line.

TS Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao reportedly said, “Let all of us representing regional parties meet frequently and stand united. Let us try to win maximum seats in our respective states. Then the national parties like the Congress and the BJP will automatically come to us for help. There is all probability of regional parties coming to power in 2019 elections. Even if polls are advanced, it will not be a problem for regional parties. We are strong in our respective states; let us consolidate further.”
