Hyderabad: City-based Muslim organisation Seerat-un-Nabi Academy on Thursday said that it will challenge the Protection of Muslim Women (Rights on Marriage) Act in the Supreme Court.

Addressing media persons, the Academy president Moulana Syed Gulam Samdani Ali Quadri said the Bill passed by both Houses of the Parliament is full of contradictions, which provide enough ground to challenge it. “We are obtaining opinions from legal experts on filing a case before the Supreme Court and we hope that we will get relief from the apex court,” he said.

He said the Bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha even though the BJP did not have majority through the indirect support of pseudo secular parties, which either did not issue whip to its members or officially abstained from voting.

Mr Quadri asked the TRS to clarify its stand on the issue. He said the majority of the Muslims had voted for the TRS. He advised the Muslim leaders of secular parties to exert pressure on their parties.
