HYDERABAD: The BJP in Telangana state will get some much-needed assistance in evaluating its prospects and identifying weaknesses in each of the 119 Assembly constituencies with the party deciding to send its MLAs from other states for an assessment and submitting reports to the national leadership.

“This is part of our preparations for Telangana state and four other states that will also go to polls to elect new Assemblies,” BJP national general secretary and in-charge of state party affairs Tarun Chugh said on Wednesday.

The four other states where the terms of Assemblies end between December and January are Mizoram, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. The current Telangana state Assembly’s term comes to an end on January 16.

Chugh said the visits by party MLAs are likely to begin in about ten days and they will stay in their designated constituencies and meet local leaders, as well as with state leaders, as directed by party president J.P. Nadda.

Meanwhile, it was learnt that the national leadership has instructed the state unit to begin identifying constituencies where the BJP would win and those where it will need to do some work to get across the finish line in a triangular contest with the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi and the Congress party.

While the BJP has already said that it will contest all 119 seats, it is learnt to have set itself a target of winning between 75 and 80 seats to ensure it has an absolute majority in the House. Sixty is the magic number for any party to form the government in the 119-member house, which also has one nominated member from the Anglo Indian community.
