Hyderabad: BJP senior leader Ch. Vidyasagar Rao, who could not get an extension as Governor of Maharashtra, will take an active role in the Telangana state BJP in the coming days.

Mr Vidyasagar Rao who had a grip on state politics before he was sent to Maharashtra will take the lead in driving the BJP campaign for 2023.

He hails from Karimnagar district and is said to have strong followers in north Telangana.

Mr Vidyasagar Rao won from the Metpally Assembly segment from 1985 to 1998 and was floor leader. He won the Karimnagar Lok Sabha seat in 1998 and 1999. He is a former Union minister of state for home in the Atal Behari Vajpayee government from 1999.

Sources in the party said that keeping in view his long political career and his attachment with the people, the BJP high command for the past several months was thinking of re-inducting him into Telangana state politics. He could get a key role, a party leader said.

He said Mr Vidyasagar Rao is good orator and can pull crowds on his own. The BJP is dire need of such a leader, he said.
