EC to issue Telangana Assembly poll notification today

The Election Commission (EC) issued a show-cause notice to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday for his "panauti", "pickpocket" and "loan waiver for the super rich" jibes at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and asked him to respond by Saturday.

Hyderabad: The Election Commission will on Friday issue the gazette notification for elections to Telangana State Legislative Assembly, by order of the state Governor.

The ECI notification fixing the schedule for various stages of the election process shall be published after it is issued.

"Nomination timings are from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on working days from November 3 to November 10. Three vehicles are allowed in the candidate's convoy within 100 meters of RO’s office at the time of filing of nomination. Apart from the candidate, four others are allowed inside the RO’s room. The candidate has to file an affidavit in Form-26 declaring information about his criminal antecedents, assets, liabilities, and education qualifications," officials said.

At least a day before filing of nomination, each candidate has to open a separate bank account to monitor his election expenditure. The bank account can be opened anywhere in the state. Online nomination facility is available through the Suvidha portal of ECI. A signed hard copy of the same has to be submitted to the RO. After 3 p.m. on each day, the RO will publish a list of nominations filed on that day.

Copies of nominations and affidavits will be displayed on the notice board of the RO’s office on the same day.

The affidavits filed by candidates have to be uploaded on the ECI website within 24 hours and will be displayed on the CEO’s website.

Cash seizure:

Police seized Rs 4.69 crore cash on November 1 and up to 9 am on Thursday taking the overall total to Rs 156 crore from October 9.

With 2032 litres of liquor worth Rs 4.45 lakh being seized now, overall Rs 49.40 crore worth of liquor has been seized between October 9 and November 2. Officials seized drugs worth Rs 1.39 crore in a single day. A total of Rs 24.79 crore worth of drugs has been seized since October 9.

Gold worth Rs 5.66 lakh has been seized in a single day taking the total gold seized from October 9 to Rs 165 crore.
