Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh BJP president Vishnu Dutt Sharma on Wednesday took a swipe at Nakul, Lok Sabha member and son of state Congress chief Kamal Nath for declaring the date of swearing-in of his father as chief minister, wondering ‘How many times the Congress leaders will make him (Nath) chief minister’.

Mr Sharma was reacting to the statement by Nath Junior extending an invitation to the people of Chhindwara, from where his father is seeking re-election in the November 17 assembly elections, to the swearing-in ceremony of his father as CM on December seven, four days after announcement of poll results.

“Mr Kamal Nath had himself declared that he would come back as chief minister when the results of by-elections to 28 assembly seats would be declared, in November 2020. But, Congress had faced a debacle in by-elections then, preventing Mr Nath from returning to power in the state”, Mr Sharma recalled.

The Kamal Nath government collapsed in March 2020 after 22 party MLAs resigned from the party and subsequently from the assembly paving the way for BJP to return to power in the state.

Twenty eight assembly constituencies in Madhya Pradesh went to by-elections in November 2020 raising the hope for Mr Nath to return to power in the state.

However, Congress had fared badly in the assembly by-elections by bagging only nine out of 28 seats.

The by-election results had ensured a majority for the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government.

Nath Junior announced the date of swearing-in of his father as chief minister as December seven while addressing an election meeting in Chhindwara late on Tuesday.

Mr Sharma claimed that BJP was going to form the government in the state in the November assembly polls with full majority.
