Kerala Law Academy row: K Muraleedharan goes on fast
The students maintained that they would go ahead with their agitation until the principal resigned.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Congress MLA K. Muraleedharan on Thursday began a hunger strike in front of the Law Academy at Peroorkada demanding the resignation of principal Lakshmi Nair. Students’ organisations like ABVP, KSU, MSF and AISF, except the SFI, are continuing the strike. Congress leader Thennala Balakrishna Pillai inaugurated the fast. Mr Muraleedharan vowed to continue his fast until the principal steps down. He alleged that the principal had not tried to solve the issues which have been seconded by the syndicate sub-committee of the University of Kerala.
“Instead of calling all the student organisations for talks, the college management invited only the SFI. The agreement brokered with the SFI was a farce,” he said. The students maintained that they would go ahead with their agitation until the principal resigned. Former BJP state president V. Muraleedharan, who had been fasting for the past eight days, was shifted to a private hospital here on Wednesday evening as his health worsened. BJP state secretary V.V. Rajesh has taken over the protest fast which entered the 23rd day on Thursday. Tight police security was in place as it was announced that the college would reopen on Thursday. However, it remained closed.
