CMP to field former Congress man in Chavara
Mr. Vijayan had served as an INTUC leader after leaving the RSP.
Kollam: The CMP has decided to field Mr N. Vijayan Pillai from Chavara where minister Sibu Baby John is the sitting MLA. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting on Saturday. Mr Pillai, son of former RSP member Narayana Pillai, was expelled by the Congress for participating in Mr Pinarayi Vijayan’s all-Kerala march in Chavara in protest against the liquor policy of the government. Mr Vijayan Pillai, a former abkari contractor, will contest on the CMP symbol with CPM support.
Mr. Vijayan had served as an INTUC leader after leaving the RSP. He was associated with the DIC earlier. Chavara has been with the RSP since the formation of the constituency in 1977. Baby John had won from there six times since then until 1996. His son Shibu Baby John won it in 2001 and Mr N.K. Premachandran in 2006 while with the LDF. Mr Shibu Baby John was elected again in 2011.
