Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying the grand-alliance wants to give a new Prime Minister to the country as the old one has failed to work for the people.

Campaigning for Poonam Sinha, who is contesting as SP candidate against Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh here, Yadav said, "I have confidence that people of Lucknow will support Poonam Sinha."

The former UP Chief Minister praised the work done by his party in the state, saying, "Metro train was brought by SP in Lucknow and also gave jobs to more than 10,000 enginers. The party has worked for the renovation of old buildings."

"We also provided laptops so that students can do well in the examinations," he added.

Criticising BJP's centre and state government, the SP leader said, "We gave the slogan 'Kaam Bolta Hai' when the BJP was accusing us of giving more electricity during Ramzan than in Diwali."

He said, "In 2017 state assembly polls, SP was close to BJP in terms of votes. Now people are angry with BJP because of demonetisation and GST.

So there is a good chance that BJP will be defeated in the Lok Sabha polls."
"Schemes like 'Make in India' and 'Digital India' of BJP have flopped," he added.
