Bandi Sanjay says Telangana tops in farmer suicides
WARANGAL: Telangana tops the country in the number of suicides by farmers, state BJP president Bandi Sanjay and Karimnagar MP charged here on Wednesday.
Inspecting crops damaged at Nagampet village in Gambhiraopet mandal of Rajanna Sircilla district, the state BJP chief accused the state government of totally neglecting farmers. Because of this, farmers are facing a lot of problems. This is compelling them to commit suicide, he stated.
Sanjay asked why the state government is not implementing the Fasal Bima Yojana scheme in the state. He said the central government sanctioned Rs. 3,000 crore to Telangana in the last nine years. “What happened to that money,” he questioned.
The Karimnagar MP later interacted with oustees of the Mid Manair Dam (MMD) reservoir at Cheerlavancha and Rudravaram villages in Vemulawada of Rajanna Sircilla district.
He wondered why Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has gone to New Delhi, instead of consoling farmers, who are deeply worried because of losses caused to them by the recent heavy rains.
Sanjay said the government has opened purchasing centres only in name and has not procured food grains. Because of this, the huge stocks that farmers had brought to purchasing centres got submerged in unexpected rains, causing a loss to farmers.
The state BJP chief said during its nine years of rule, BRS government has not bothered about farming sector as well as tenant farmers. It promised farmers waiver of farm loans and subsidy on fertilisers. But the government has deviated from these promises, he stated.
Sanjay said the new secretariat that KCR has inaugurated is not of adequate standards. The secretariat buildings have started leaking from the very first day of inauguration, he maintained.
