Pramod Muthalik leads protest against Pejawar seer's Iftar in Bengaluru
Asked about some leaders suggesting the cleansing of Krishna Mutt, the seer said there is no question of cleansing the Mutt.
Udupi: Sri Rama Sene along with Hindu Jana Jagruthi Samithi, held a protest against the organising of an Iftar at Udupi Krishna Mutt while in Bengaluru, the protest was led by Sri Rama Sene chief Pramod Muthalik.
The saffron outfits are angry with Pejawar seer Viswesha Tirtha Swamiji for allowing the Iftar to be organised at the mutt last Saturday as part of Ramzan celebrations. The protesters who gathered near the clock tower at Udupi Service Bus stand, offered puja to the photo of Lord Krishna before holding the protest.
"You are the supreme guru of Hindutva. But it was not correct to allow namaz inside the Mutt. If next year, you organise an Iftar, we too will attend. But the event should be held not inside the mutt but outside at some other place," Sri Rama Sene leader Mohan Bhat said.
The Pejawar Swamiji however remained firm on his stand. "I will not react to the statement of Pramod Muthalik. Those who are opposing the Iftar, do not know the Shastras well enough. How has this (Iftar) harmed Dharma? I am not affected by the protest. I am into my routine puja and religious activities," the Swamiji told reporters.
Asked about some leaders suggesting the cleansing of Krishna Mutt, the seer said there is no question of cleansing the Mutt. "Why should it be cleansed? What has happened? The event was held in the dining hall. If they(Muslims) have offered prayers, is it a mistake? I have not taken any step that goes against Dharma," the Swamiji asserted adding that there is a need for harmony in society and his step was a move towards harmony.
