Congress plans rally for farmers, meet PM Modi

Hyderabad: The Congress on Tuesday decided to organise a ‘Chalo Mallannasagar’ rally with several hundred party workers and leaders on August 7 and submit a representation, highlighting the issues faced by farmers, to Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Gajwel meeting.
The villages, which could be submerged due to the Mallannasagar project are adjacent to Komatibanda village, where Mr Modi is scheduled to attend a public meeting.
During its executive meeting on Tuesday, the state Congress has decided to take up the Mallannasagar agitation more aggressively during Mr Modi’s visit to the state.
Police generally don’t allow agitational programmes during the Prime Minister’s visit due to law and order considerations.
However, the Congress — which has been unable to reach to the project-affected farmers in the soon-to-be submerged villages till now — wants to use the Prime Minister’s visit to the state to highlight the farmers’ plight to Mr Modi.
