Visakhapatnam: The Anglo-Indian Community Association (AICA) in Andhra Pradesh has urged the state government to allot them a set of nominated posts.

“We sent a letter to Chief Minister Jagan Reddy and met government officials,” said association secretary June Gallyot here on Tuesday. August 2 was World Anglo Indian Day.

The association also asked for appointment of Anglo Indian teachers in government schools, jobs for its youths and establishment of a community hall for the community.

Anglo-Indians form into a small minority community in the state, where  they are estimated to number 1.2 lakh across Vizag, Vijayawada, Rajahmundry, Kakinada, Guntur, Guntakal and Birtagunta.

The community made remarkable contributions in the fields of education, music, sports and healthcare.

The association has submitted a representation to officials requesting  representation for the community in nominated posts of the state government, as in the AP state Christian minorities finance corporation, other corporations and commissions.

“We proposed names of Joseph Howell from Vizag city and Maryann Josephine Dsouza from Vijayawada city for such nominated posts,’’ June Gallyot said.
