Alagiri takes a swipe at Annamalai
Chennai: TNCC president K S Alagiri took a swipe at BJP State president Annamalai for his comparison of Tamil Nadu with Gujarat over the State’s high debts and wondered if he knew when the debts escalated to this level.
In a statement on Wednesday, Alagiri dished out statistics to prove that the debt was taken to dizzy heights during the rule of the AIADMK, which was an ally of the BJP, and asked if Annamalai was aware of those figures.
He said that Annamalai had made a mockery of his walkathon by taking a Tempo Traveller and a luxury bus to move ahead and said that the news emanating from his yatra had made him a laughing stock.
Alagiri also asked Annamalai if he was aware of the present BJP government, due to its wrong economic policies, had borrowed Rs 100 lakh crore in the past nine years when the debt accrued by the country in the past 67 years, under 14 Prime Ministers, was only Rs 55 lakh crore.
The BJP rule in the country had led to a huge debt of Rs 169 lakh crore, making the average debt burden of a citizen Rs 1,10,000 when it was only Rs 43,000 before the BJP came to power, he said.
