HYDERABAD: In a setback to Congress, Medchal DCC president Nandikanti Sridhar resigned from the party here on Monday. Sridhar, who was aspiring for the Malkajgiri Assembly ticket, is furious at the party leadership, which reportedly promised the ticket to the newly-joined BRS leader Mynampally Hanumanth Rao. Reports are that Sridhar is likely to join the ruling party in the next couple of days.

In his resignation letter addressed to AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, he said that he had been a party loyalist since 1994 and was trying for the Malkajgiri seat since 2018. It was then denied because the seat was allotted to TJS as part of the grand alliance.

"This time, the Congress has promised adequate tickets for BC candidates in the Assembly polls and I expected to get the ticket. But the party leadership has promised tickets to BRS rebel Mynampally Hanumanth Rao and his son Rohith from Medak. This is in violation of the Udaipur declaration of 'one family-one ticket'," Sridhar said.

Medak Congress president Kantareddy Tirupati Reddy resigned on Sunday in protest against the party's decision to field Rohith from Medak.
