Hyderabad: The BJP found cause to celebrate in the city on Sunday as T. Raja Singh continued his winning streak in the Goshamahal Assembly constituency, with celebrations starting as early as the afternoon when he established a lead over his competitors.

A large contingent of his supporters swarmed to the Koti Women’s College, distributing sweets near the counting centre and taking out a rally covering the entire constituency.

Raja Singh beat out BRS’ Nanda Kishor Vyas and Congress’ Sunitha Rao, securing 80,182 votes in all and 21,457 more than his closest competitor.

BJP cadres and supporters termed his win a “victory of the people of this constituency”, who sought to choose him for a third consecutive time.

Rakesh Jaiswal, the corporator of Jambagh, who was also among those distributing sweets, said: “His victory for the third time is the victory over those slaughtering cows and for those saving the cows. This is the victory over those who are against the Ram Mandir.”

He said, “Raja Bhai, a national figure, will be a great instrument in spreading the popularity of the party throughout the nation.”

Anand Vishnav, a BJP leader for Bogulkunta, said, “People got furious with KTR’s speech at a campaign when he said they put those who spoke on Prophet in jail. This is the decision of the people.”

A bike rally was taken out covering Begumbazaar, Dattatreya Nagar, Mangalhat, Goshamahal, Jambagh, Gunfoundry and Dhoolpet.
