Indian Union Muslim League retains Kozhikode trio
The rival group had proposed M.C. Mayin Haji for the president.
Kozhikode: Though two factions vied for the district leadership, IUML has chosen to retain the current team. At the meeting of the party delegates held here at League House on Saturday, Ummer Pandikasala-M.A Razak Master-Parakkal Abdulla, MLA, trio got another term as district president, general secretary and treasurer respectively.
There are changes in the vice-president and secretary posts. Razak Master had resigned due to his candidature in the Assembly election and M.C. Aboobakar was given the charge. The rival group had proposed M.C. Mayin Haji for the president. It also argued for removing MLAs from the top party posts citing the one rank-one-post norm.
It was seen as a move to corner M.K. Muneer and K.M Shaji, both MLAs, from getting dominant party positions as IUML is all set to get new state committee on Feb. 11. “The one rank in the party and parliamentary politics was adhered to earlier and not now. The selection was unanimous, and there was no factionalism as was reported,” said Mr Pandikasala. On Friday, state general secretary K.P.A Majeed had talked to the two factions to arrive at a consensus.
