Hyderabad: Farm meet says review land Act

Hyderabad: Participants at the three-day Kisan Swaraj Sammelan pledged to work together to build a national level movement to achieve the demands of farmers.

The sammelan which concluded on Sunday as attended by activists like Medha Patkar, Devendar Sharma, Vijoo Krishnan, Lingaraj Pradhan, Dr Sunilam and Professor Kodandaram.

Speakers condemned the grabbing of farm land in the name of development projects and industries and demanded immediate amendments addressing shortcomings in the Land Acquisition Act 2013.

Rather than creating land banks for the benefit of corporate, land should be given to landless cultivators – the plenary demanded. They sought full implementation of forest acts emphasising the rights of Adivasis.

Speakers sought comprehensive support from the government to uplift farmers supporting for income guarantee, relief and insurance against natural calamities, land rights and acquisition, relief and rehabilitation of suicide families and free trade policies.
