THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPM is holding street plays across many constituencies to highlight the plight of people, issues like price rise, communalism. Street plays are being effectively used for interacting with voters in each constituency. There is an instant connect with the people on the ground and the script used for street plays convey the message effectively.

The CPM is mainly focussing on issues like corruption of Oommen Chandy government including solar scam, bar bribe case and allotment prime land to private parties while attacking the Congress. Issues like beef, Rohit Vemula, JNU row are being raised through street plays to target BJP led Hindutva brigade’s policies.

These plays also take a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s false promises on bringing back black money stashed in foreing banks,  Rs 15 lakh in each person’s bank account. CPM leaders say the response to street plays is quite good at various places.

Taking a leaf from CPM’s book, the BJP has also taken the medium of street theatres to campaign for its candidates. Street plays are being staged in various constituencies by the BJP led troupe.

The focus of BJP’s street play is on the UDF and LDF rule and the miseries that had been heaped on the people of the state. The play also rejects the charge of BJP being communal outfit and accuses both the fronts of exploiting the religious identities of people to fetch votes.
