Political parties' tactics during the elections are not going down well with the young electorate.
The countdown has begun. May 12 is the date — which will, hopefully, change Karnataka’s political scenario. Meanwhile, the campaigning has begun in full gusto; ads are being rated – as blah, bad, and the worst! Going overboard with the usual mud-slinging tactics, looks like Bengalureans clearly are not pleased with what they are seeing unfuld. So, where are our netas and their tryst with appeasing us going wrong? We find out...
“Most of the political parties, even to this day use the same templates when it comes to TV ads, and that is ridiculous to say the least, considering we are in the digital era. So, it only makes sense to get a little smarter,” begins Puneeth BA, founder of The Kathe Project. He adds, “I find most of these ads too silly and funny. They should probably move towards making few powerful ones respecting the intelligence of their audience. Keeping it simple, understandable and smart is what I would prefer from a political ad.”
Recalling a rather funny instance, Meghana Harikumar, a writer adds, “So, there was this radio ad which ran along the lines of how BJP didn’t rectify the roads, and how Congress did. Like seriously? Do we seem that gullible? It is high time people step up their game! Voters in the digital era won’t just be convinced by mud-slinging. I don’t care which party mends the roads.
Problem is the roads aren’t in the best shape. I feel it’s unfortunate that a channel that should ideally trigger voting is doing the exact opposite. Most radio campaigns are full of faff and I don’t think anybody is interested in knowing what an opposition party didn’t do.”
Vouching by similar views, theatre artist and actress Sparsha Rk believes the whole idea of promotion should touch upon the two Ss of absolute importance right now: Safety and security: “First of all, people should feel safe in the hands of these guys. And, to show their stupidity through such ads is a huge letdown! And, also, this finger-pointing tactic is so passe.
I will obviously not go by these ads and will cast my vote to anyone who displays a little bit of intelligence, smartness and honesty. We are in the 21st century for heavens sake!”
