TRS tells KCR Congress will be more amenable
KCR toys with three options in post-poll scenario.
Hyderabad: The TRS leadership is considering three options in the post-poll scenario in national politics. Top sources said that TRS president and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is collecting the opinions of the party's senior leaders in this regard.
The CM is of the opinion that neither the BJP nor the Congress will get a full majority to form government at the Centre on their own. The BJP will try to form the government with the help of its National Democratic Alliance (NDA) allies, and the Congress will try to form the government with the support of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA).
Mr Rao can support either of these two formations but he is also trying to form the Federal Front by bringing together regional parties.
Sources said that there are different opinions in the party if the Federal Front is not possible. A senior TRS leader said that if the BJP-led NDA formed government, the northern parties would dominate the show. If the Congress-led UPA came to power, southern parties would have a say in government.
He said if Mr Narendra Modi becomes Prime Minister again, he may not heed the demands of the Telangana state. Generally, the BJP gives more importance to political parties based in the northern states, while the UPA depends more on political parties based in southern states.
The senior leader said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is more likely to yield to the demands of the TRS for development of the state than Mr Modi. Most regional political parties have taken the side of either the NDA or the UPA. A Federal Front government is possible if a good number of regional party MPs are elected and if regional parties currently sailing with the NDA or the UPA join it.
After the formation of the Federal Front they can take the support of the BJP or Congress to form the government. At present, prominent regional parties are against the BJP and have a soft corner for the Congress. But going by the Congress’ past history, the continuation of a Federal Front government for five years with the support of the Congress is doubtful. For one thing, the BJP is likely to encourage defections to destabilise the government. The TRS will take a final decision only after the Lok Sabha results, and depending on the number of seats won by the BJP and the Congress and their allies.
