TRS ignored hospitals: Congress
Congress MLC Jeevan Reddy said the Niloufer Hospital had been upgraded to a 1,000-bed institution but was not provided facilities.
Hyderabad: Congress Legislative Party leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and party MLC T. Jeevan Reddy on Saturday criticised the government for leaving state-run hospitals in a highly deplorable state. “There were no specialist doctors and patients were provided minimum facilities,” they said.
The Congress leaders visited Niloufer Hospital on Saturday and saw three to six patients sharing a bed. Mr Bhatti said Niloufer Hospital had only 65 nurses out of the 385 sanctioned by the government. There were about 50 doctor vacancies including for podiatrists.
Mr Bhatti said Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao could find out the real position only if he came out of Pragathi Bhavan.
Mr Jeevan Reddy said the Niloufer Hospital had been upgraded to a 1,000-bed institution but was not provided facilities. He alleged that the hospital was run by the police and patients were facing problems.
An argument broke out between Mr Jeevan Reddy and paediatric department head of department Dr Ravikumar when the Congress leaders were speaking to the patients. When the doctors tried to stop the patients from speaking, Mr Jeevan Reddy got angry and told him to let them speak,
The Congress leaders said the government hospitals did not have sufficient medicines. Women patients were facing problems due to lack of gynaecologists and were being forced to go to private hospitals, they said.
Mr Bhatti said that the people were suffering from seasonal disease. He said in Sircilla, representing by TRS working president K.T. Rama Rao, the government hospital did not have a gynaecologist.
He said that in his Madhira constituency, the government did not have required doctors.
