CHENNAI: Telangana governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan expressed that she should have ensured the BJP’s victory in the State before taking up the new responsibility as governor.

“But, I am not solely responsible for the political scenario,” she however hastened to add, referring to the party’s dismal performance in the April Lok Sabha.

The party which was in alliance with the ruling AIADMK lost all the five seats it contested.

“Becoming governor was never in my wish-list. I always wanted to become a lawmaker to take up the people’s issues in the Assembly. But that’s past. Now my party leadership has made me a governor to administer oath to the legislators and to address the Assembly House,” Dr. Tamilisai says with a laugh.

It is not just the gubernatorial post; she never aspired for higher positions in the party but wanted to diligently serve the party.

“There may be stones or flowers on the path we tread. We should continue to march towards our goal without waiting or anticipating rewards,” Dr. Tamilisai who will assume charge as governor of Telangana on Sept. 8, said.

Earlier on Tuesday evening she officially received the appointment order from Vedamtam Giri Resident Commissioner of Telangana Bhawan in New Delhi. He flew to Chennai and handed over the ‘Order of Warrant’ to Tamilisai at here residence here.

Asked if she would bid adieu to Tamil Nadu as she has to move to the neighbouring State carved out in 2014 from Andhra Pradesh, she said that she would act as a bridge between the two States.

On whether she regretted that the BJP did not elevate her to the stature of a Union Minister, she shot back, “the governor’s post is above it. From politics I am now moving to become the executive head of the State.”
